Moores Motorcycles
Moores Motorcycles in Apsley, near Hemel Hempstead are kindly offering discounted MOT tests for private motorcycles owned by members of SERV Herts and Beds. If you show your current membership card, they will carry out your MOT for £24.00 c/w the normal price of £29.95. They are located at
London Rd, Apsley, Hemel Hempstead HP3 9SX, tel: 01442 252601.
They offer a turn up and queue system for MOT tests with no need to book in advance, Mon - Fri, 10.00am to 12.00 noon and 2.00pm to 4.00pm. I'm not sure whether the same arrangements apply on Saturdays, but a quick phone call to them will clarify. If your MOT has already run out, you will need to call them in advance to "book" a slot, because if you get stopped by the police on your way to the test and you don't have a booking, you risk a fine and possibly points on your licence.

Each vest comes in 7 sizes, Helite will assist in you making the right size choice. Since each vest is custom made with our badges, they cannot be returned for other than fault reasons after purchase.

Vest Purchases
Purchases or requests for new vests can be made directly to Lee, and copy ian.hunt@servhertsbeds.org.uk to confirm you are an active member.
Your order can be delivered to your home address via DPD, but the invoice shall always be addressed to and paid by SERV. SERV will ask for a donation back to the charity.
Vest Servicing
If you already have a vest, the advice is to have it serviced every 2 years. Heavy use may need less. Register a new vest with Helite UK for a 2-year Warranty then if serviced after 2 years you get another 2-year Warranty on the airbag component. The period is really at your own discretion; it is not mandated. Fair weather riders’ vests will tend to look better for longer. Service cost is approx. £75 + VAT, you pay directly to Helite UK. Details of what is included in a service can be read on the web site. Booking for a service is via an on-line link. Note when returning for a service you do not need to return the canister.
Self Service Tips:
Some suggestions how to perform your own mini service:
Check the keyball connection on the lanyard connection to the vest, make sure it is clean and not corroded, and that the rubber covering is still good
Clean the vest using a non-bio detergent with a light cloth. DO NOT SUBMERGE the vest in water. For small but significant markings you can use diluted CIF and rub that spot in a smaller but focused area.
A service wash is always the best clean!
Checking the weight of the canister is a good idea after 2 years. Weights are on the canisters. If out of +/- tolerance then purchase a new canister. The canisters will still work if out but may not have the correct pressure. Note…canisters generally last more than 3 years.
Part exchange:
Anyone wishing to part exchange their vest for a newer model can contact Lee directly. Helite UK will look at the vest (photo’s on email are fine) and make an offer against a part exchange. Once you receive the new one then return the old.
