On the Sunday of the rain weekend we had been asked to attend the Potton fire station open day by Becky Mooney one of our controllers. Her husband Neville is a crew manager there. We duly obliged and Roy, Neil, Karen, Robin and I arrived to a sunny morning and pitched our

gazebo next to the tea wagon - shrewd move especially as they had a
large quantity of home made cakes!  The Potton crew put on a road traffic crash demonstration and had their hydraulic rescue kit available for people to use and show their skill in picking up a raw egg without cracking it - we all failed.  Neville Mooney showed us around the fire engine and explained the diverse range of equipment available to them and used to cope with a vast range of incidents.

Bacon sandwiches were brought out to us at 1 pm and guess what - it poured down!  The crowd quickly dispersed and as 2 pm was the finish time we made an early dismantle of the SERV gazebo and were away before 2 pm.  Our thanks go to Neville, Becky and the Potton fire crew for their warm welcome and interesting 4 hours spent in their company.
