John Lewis WGC

A fantastic day was had by all at John Lewis, Welwyn Garden City, store on Saturday 31st of July 2010.

The day started weather wise with a slight drizzle but by 10.30hrs it had brightened to a blueish haze which threatened and indeed provided a beautifully hot day.
The shoppers were in good form with some literally throwing money at Dave Wilson from passers-by in cars and also pedestrians giving  in a similar way too.

It soon became obvious that along with the cheque being given to us from John Lewis [pictured above are the Manager of the Branch on the day being Dorothy Egerton and Community Liaison Co-ordinator Michael Burn and Grant Shapps MP], that we may also be fortunate to collect quite a bit from the passing public.

Never were any of us expecting the bumper windfall of a bucket collection of £1,064 - YES that is correct!

From 09.30hrs until 16.30hrs Robin Snelling, Alan Wilkinson, Roger Elvin, Andy Baker, Steve Williams, Christine & John Dean, Kim & Neil Langley, Dave Wilson, Clive James, James Fensome, John Winchester and myself, ably supported by Ian Larman our resident photographer

We were also supported by the appearance of Roy Snelling later on after he had been taking a potential new member Yana da Silva, on route training.

John Lewis also kindly gave us hospitality in their staff restaurant during the day.

So there you have it folks - a cheque from John Lewis of £500 + our windfall bucket collection of £1,064 making a grand total of £1,564 - a very good day's work all round.

Thank you to all concerned, from the Editor.
